Tropical guavas (Psidium guajava)

Also known as guava or tree guava
Types include yellow, apple or pear guava
It is a quick growing tree
It does best in warm to hot climates
It may bear fruit in 2 years
Fruit is 7cm in diameter
The flesh is white to deep pink in color
They are a good source of Vitamin C
They can be used in jams or chutneys
Trees can reach 5 meters tall
Trees can be treated like a hedge
Yield is as high as 70kg per tree






















How to Grow

They like a full sun position
They grow in a wide range of soils
Plant in cooler weather
Keep fruiting trees well watered
Fertilise with some blood and bone mix
Fruit needs protection from fruit flies

Harvesting

Fruit is ripe in Autumn or early Winter
Pick fruit that is soft
