Also known as chinese gooseberries
They are rampant, twining, deciduous plants
There are 3 main types of kiwifruit
The main type is the large furry green ones
These fruits originated in China
New Zealanders began to grow them in the early 1900's
They contain vitamin C, iron and potassium
They contain calcium and magnesium
Vines can be productive for up to 30 years
Vines can be used for summer shade
Yield can be as high as 150 fruit per vine
Vines can grow to 5 meters in height
Vines can grow up to 9m(28ft) in length
Kiwifruit are very frost tolerant















How to Grow

They need permanent supports and alot of space
They need a fence, trellis or wall to grow on
Plant in winter
Plant both a male and a female plant
Allow 4-5 m(12-15ft) between plants
Protect plants from strong winds
They start to fruit at 4-5 years
Use blood and bone and manure to feed plants
Keep soil moist

Harvesting

Fruits ripen in Autumn and early winter
Harvest fruits that start to soften
