New Zealand Spinach (Tetragonia tetragonioides)

Also known as Warragul greens
A low spreading green vegetable
It has spiky, triangular leaves about 5cm long
It is very hardy
It can trail for over a meter
It has a stronger more acidic taste than spinach
It is slow to bolt, grows quickly and is fairly tasty
It yields about 6kg per 3m row

How to grow

Sow Spring to Autumn
A sunny, sheltered site
Sow seed 2.5cm(1in) deep, 45cm apart, 45cm rows

Harvesting

In good conditions shoots and leaves can be picked about 4 weeks after sowing
Regular picking promotes fresh growth
It might be best to cook parts of this plant before eating it can affect the stomach
