Is a small tree with an ancient past
They are mentioned in the bible in Genesis 30:37
Trees have been used as hedges
Giving a dense barrier to paddocks
Hazels are frost hardy
They have a shallow root network
Tree produce nuts in 3-4 years
They can grow to 3 meters(10ft) tall
Yields of nuts is very variable
Expect 5-15 kg per tree









How to Grow

They like full sun or light shade
They prefer light sandy soils
Plant trees in winter
Water trees well in summer
Mulch trees and keep down weeds
Protect plants from birds

Harvesting

in early Autumn
when the husks start to turn yellow
dry the nuts in the sun
remove the husks when they are dry
