Is a type of cane fruit similar to raspberries
It has long fruiting stems called canes
Its known for its rapid and uncontrolled growth
It can be easy to grow
Plants can be thorny or thornless
There are bush varieties
It has fruits up to 3cm(1in) in length
They can be grown in pots or containers
Blackberries produce 6-9kg per 3 meter row
The core part of the fruit can be eaten
The core helps the fruit keep its shape
Blackberries are harvested from midsummer and into Autumn
Canes that have fruited are cut off at ground level
Fruits can be frozen to be eaten another time
Reproduction is from seed or runners
Blackberries have been called weeds in some places

















How to Grow

A new cane and its rootball from an existing plant
Can be taken and put somewhere
Shoot tips of plants produce roots in contact with soil
They can be cut off when with roots and replanted
They can be planted anytime of the year
Blackberries like partial shade and protection from winds
Supports for the canes is recommended
With strong posts and wires to hold the canes
Place plants 45cm apart with canes 10cm apart
Harvest when the blackberries are ripe
